Trek

Friday, February 26th, 2010

I’m heading up the mountain this weekend to sit sesshin and mark the start of the spring Ango. I welcome the opportunity to be still for an extended period and let my practice deepen.

The quarter is winding down just as it’s gotten wound up. There are just a few weeks of classes remaining, and we’re moving quick toward final assessments. The swiftness reminds me that I’ll be done with the course entirely in just a few more months. It’s remarkable how much knowledge and skill I’ve gained, and humbling to recognize what lies ahead.

All in all, a good place to be.

Shift

I’m reminded of sitting in the Fells watching the ice break. One moment nothing seemed out of place, and then KRRAAAAAAAAAAAK! – and the sheet heaved and shifted and tore. The sight of the ice was something, but it was sound, that sound, that shifted something in my own self that day. Beautiful and terrifying, I’ll never forget it, and I’ll never be able to truly share it with anyone.
